After a recent leak of images of Huawei’s successor to the Ascend Mate, the Ascend Mate 2, it is no surprise to see the device at CES 2014. This refreshed version of a super-sized smartphone will come with a 6.1-inch screen running at 720p resolution. While giving up some sharpness to manufacturers producing 1080p or greater screens for their smartphone devices, the lower energy demands combined with Huawei’s 4050 mAh battery means the device should run for quite a while between charges. Huawei claims under “normal use” that translates to 60 hours per charge or 12 hours of constant web surfing.

The Ascend Mate 2 will come with one of two processoers, a 1.6GHz Qualcomm MSM8928 or Huawei’s in-house HiSilicon processor. The device will also come equipped with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with support for up to 32GB of microSD storage, a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP camera on the front. Huawei will ship the devices with Android 4.3 and their own Emotion UI 2.0 running on top of that. Huawei’s UI is designed to make it easier to utilize such a large device with one hand and provides support for floating widgets.

No pricing or availability was announced, but Huawei’s Richard Yu indicated in comments this morning that the phone will be coming to the U.S. and he indicated AT&T was a compatible carrier.

Be sure to check back for more CES 2014 coverage and perhaps a hands-on video of the Ascend Mate 2.
