Remember when HP had its own operating system after acquiring Palm? The Pre, Pixi, or even the Touchpad tablet? Shortly after WebOS flopped, HP was left without plans in the mobile industry. Recently, they have released some Android tablets while leaving the smartphone front dry. But a report from The Information has revealed that the company intends on releasing devices with massive displays aimed at emerging markets. The devices would have 6-inch and 7-inch screens and cost between $200 and $250 off-contract.

Personally, I would like to see HP back in the mobile game because they really have not done much with hardware lately. Targeting emerging markets with great off-contract prices could turn out to be great and lead the company back into the United States to duke it out with Samsung, HTC, and Motorola. Don’t forget that HP was working with an operating system they did not develop in a time when iOS and Android were starting to become wildly popular.
